Created environment and animation in Blender using assets from Free3D and Mixamo

Blog

This was a requirement as a final output for my subject Modelling and Rigging, Year 3. We were allowed to use any tool we want so I decided to use Blender.

I don't recall the exact rubrics/requirement but what I recalled was that the render just needs to show at the very least an animation of a walking quad-pedal (or more legs), and then I added a walking bi-pedal (which was an earlier activity) to add more sense and backstory rather than the quad just animating on its own. Since I really like this subject I was inspired to do more.

The Extra That I Am

I downloaded a human from Mixamo and a robot from Free3D. I also downloaded some other assets like the crate and beach ball, which was supposed to add a "circus" vibe.

The Circus Idea

It wasn't really that deep to be honest, although thinking about it now I find it a witty approach. Originally, I just added spotlights to highlight where the viewers should look (at the person). The lights were adjusted so that it fades to black and the person would appear from the dark so that it would seamlessly loop. It was just a blank map at first.

It was later on that I realized it has this "late night circus vibes" where the moon shines through a hole on the tent, so I added those creates and beach balls.

Editing

I rendered several parts from different cameras and stitched them in Premiere Pro. This process also helped me chop the render times into several parts instead of burning my graphics card by rendering each camera fully, when only small portions of it will be used.

I also added and tweaked some SFX like the running shoes that echoes throughout the large room depending on what camera is taking it, and pans from right to left as he runs across (notable in earphones).
